I don't know but my limewire connection has seriously been sucking lately. I can't download and it slows down my computer a lot.

You should have no problems being able to download limewire with any antivirus program due to the fact that limewire is a legit program, and doesnt contain any viruses. At the most, the antivirus program would scan the limewire.exe download file and then let you proceed with the download after scanning it.
Yes it can.....because nothing is protected on LIMEWIRE.......but i always download stuff on there and it has never gave my computer a virus.....

Yes! sometimes P2P can have spyware! and sometimes files you download from P2P servers like Limewire! people bind viruses into popular files! Music, mpg softwares(.exe files)

And your firewall catches these files and think of them as viruses! not all time its right! but thats what firewalls do.

I currently have Norton antivirus and I am an AT%26T subsciber and I know I cannot have BOTH antivirus programs. I will have my norton within the next week and I was wondering is the FREE antivirus as good as Norton or should I just stick with the one I have and pay the price. Norton is a big memory hog that slows down your PC. and yes the tools that at%26t give you with your service are as good as norton and better in the fact that it doesnt hog memory. and CA anti virus is a paid for tool if you are not an AT%26T user.so it isnt like you are getting a free tool but one that is part of your monthly bill.and you can have more than one anti virus installed on your pc,you just cant have more than one running at a time.I keep 3 and use each one to scan my pc at differant times.but I keep my Pc Cillin on at all times.

They dont do the same thing. Norton does not detect spyware. It is not made to fight spyware. Yeah keep both, one fights viruses, the other fights spyware.
No they are not the same thing. One is for virus checking and the otehr checks for Adware/Spyware. Personally I'd dump Norton and get aVast and also Windows Defender.
I have niether. I do have avg, free edition. It has done me quite well. No viruses , no addware.
Norton anti-virus protect your pc from virus, Spy Sweeper protects it from Spyware/Adware. They're 2 different products and yes you will need both.

The only way they can ''break through'' is if the user downloads something and runs it. Most AV software would warn about the presence of a nasty when the download was finished.

The answer is that if you didn't have locks then anyone could walk in - they wouldn't have to be prepared to try and force their way in....

In the case of Signature based Tech - the AV program will check for the signature if available in the database. Which means it can only identify the known viruses.

In the case of Heuristic Based Tech - The AV program will check the behaviour of the file. For sure to record the behaviour of the file it has to allow first virus to enter. if the first virus is power ful the ofcourse any antivirus for that matter can do very little to protect your computer.

You would have to have a huge knowledge of viruses... so that you could detect when a certain file is and isn't a virus... to do this you would have to know which files may contain viruses.. and then know exactly how to get rid of them. If you can't get rid of it manually, then you can't make a program get rid of it. ;) Take a look at nortan's virus lists... they are very extensive!

making an anti virus requires a full team of people... and they are all specialists in programming and testing new solutions.. so.. try something more easier.
you are proceeding with a very difficult task. The programming of the antivirus GUI shouldn't be too hard, but getting the definitions of hundreds of thousands of virus' is a very daunting task.
