go to add/remove programs and look at both programs and see whichever one takes up more space. delete the one that takes up more space

Remove neither. Your computer needs both an anti-virus and a firewall to be properly protected again est viruses, worms, malware etc.

Sometimes you can speed things up a bit without sacrificing security by shutting off the Web Shield in Avast.

Well first you should delete documents and other programs because these two are important to your computer's security.

Another option is to go to control panel, then performance and maintenance-there is something called disc defragmentor or something like that. Try this.
Go to CTRL + ALT + DEL and click on the processes tab, see which one is using more system memory. Then delete it. Then Defragment your harddrive. (Acsessories, System Tools, System Defragmenter)
