You should have no problems being able to download limewire with any antivirus program due to the fact that limewire is a legit program, and doesnt contain any viruses. At the most, the antivirus program would scan the limewire.exe download file and then let you proceed with the download after scanning it.

You might want to download them both and check them out. Every computer is different, different settings, different software. An AV that runs fine on one machine, may slow another one down or conflict with other software. So, download them and set a restore point in System Restore (you can access that by going to your start menu, choosing Help and Support, then choosing System Restore), or using any third party image backup program you might have (Norton Ghost, Acronis True Image). Try putting your cursor on the icon and RIGHT-clicking it. They you should get subjects like ''Help,'' and ''Settings,'' etc.

You shouldn't use more than one antivirus and at the bare minimum, at least don't have both actively running. When doing so, they can flag each other as malware, attempt to uninstall each other's components and generally render each ineffective thus leaving your computer even more susceptible to malware. ok there are several ways an anti virus program works.

firstly and most commonly it look for files on your computer with 'bad' names. ie, names of know viruses. a list of the newest 'bad' files is downloaded from the anti-virus server very frequently. when the AV (anti-virus program) finds a bad file it will try to delete it, and if it cant delete it, it will put it in to a state of quarantine. meaning that the file cannot be acessed but any other programs.

The second way a program will fight viruses is to whatch all the ports on your computer to see if any program is trying to either get in to or out of your computer. if it detects what this program is trying to do is malicious then it will stop it from acsessing your computer.

The third and final way AV stops viruses from harming your computer is to look in memory and for any processes running that and doing things they shouldnt be. like making 'bad' files, removing other files or simply trying to download things you dont want, or even sending your information to some one else.

Unless you really cannot afford to pay for a security solution, I would avoid free programs such as AVG, Spybot and Adaware. Shockingly these three programs used in conjunction now protects you from less than 60% of the threats out there today. In all seriousness, these programs (especially spybot and adaware) are no longer good enough to be your only protection against viruses, spyware and adware (as well as trojans, rootkits and other nasties). They used to be great programs a couple of years ago, but have now been overtaken by programs with next-generation approaches.

If you would be interested in other Security products that are better than all of these, you should try either Prevx1, Kaspersky or F-Secure who all score over a 99% protection rating. I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. Yes Symantec is garbage (ex-windows user here) and I've seen how it tears up a PC so I can only imagine the havoc it would bring upon a Mac.

Also, I've never needed anti-virus/spyware/malware on my Mac and my understanding is that most other Mac users haven't either.

You get what you pay for... free downloads aren't always worth it.
there are less than 50 total viruses for the mac platform most have been patched by apple and basically none are still active. you do not need any antivirus protection on a mac

I had it, and to be quite honest, it didn't slow my computer down, it was just a pain in the *** ''scanning'' ,and if you don't have the new operating system with spaces it takes up desktop space, if you know what I mean.

Macs are immune to viruses most of the time anyway, so I wouldn't install anything on my computer I didn't need. When I had it the first time I was coming from a Windows computer. So many viruses aimed at that poor operating system... so many anti-virus programs.

I even asked a Mac genius at their store who told me they didn't have it on their computer, so coming from him, I didn't worry.

Go to www.download.com and download AVG anti virus and spyware, download Search and destroy and zone alarm. After you install all of these update them and then run them. that should help you out allot. You need to be more detailed in the issues you are having. Good luck
I would recommend avira antivir classic but somewhat it is annoying to others with its pop up ad to update to premium and limited time offer (although you can ''renew'' it). Then there is avast home edition which has a unique interface (similar to a winplayer or winamp or the likes) and a registration is all you need. Then the simplest yet lesser than the two (still quite effective though) is AVG free which is just an install away. For antispyware you could use spybot SD or better yet try spywareblaster with threatfire free. A good removal tool would be spywaredoctor free or a-squared antimalware free (both are ok since they do not have a real time scanning). Then for firewall you can use comodo firewall pro or kerio personal firewall 4 (which has a 30day trial after which it switches to the free version).
For antivirus, I recommend Avast. AVG and Antivir are also strong contenders.

a) give a MASSIVE slowdown to your PC

b) (some may) notify each other as viruses.

If you do choose to uninstall it, first, you must uninstall normally, then delete tons of registries that will prevent you from installing other anti-virus programs.

To be honest, they don't need to. There are enough other people writing viruses and trojans to create botnets for spamming. Although the Sasser worm was written by a German teenager to drum up business for his mum's IT repair shop... Don't think she could quite handle the millions of victims though.
I very much doubt that they do, but who knows what peopel do in there spare time. I think alot of security related personal are ex hackers etc so they may have done in the past

Well there is no such thing as ''the most powerfull'' anti virus or anti hacker solution. Because all of them must have flaws, or a virus strain could come up whic is not in the database.

Anyway, to sum up a few you've got Kaspersky, BitDefender, McAfee, NOD 32. Now these antiviruses usually come bundled up with other apps that act as firewalls, email, document scanners and are preety usefull. But I would recommend an external firewall too say Black Ice from ISS. (the one I use, though I'm sure there are many other good ones).

Right now I have a combination of NOD 32 for antivirus scanner and monotoring Black Ice for a firewall and also the XP SP2 firewall. They do a preety good job.

And most importantly, don't open or download emails from unknow sources, don't provide your active email account to a registration form in ANY website you should be OK.

AVG Free is junk. Read the reviews. And Kaspersky (sad to say) has fallen to a ''B'' grade.

THE best free anti-virus is Avira Anti-Vir Personal. (COMODO Free may be as good, but I haven't seen a test on it yet - their free firewall is as good as any you can buy!) You just to have to put up with Avira's ''upgrade'' ads (which only show up when you boot - so if you use hibernate instead you hardly ever see them ;)

took me 20 trys until i could get limewire, if it doesnt work still try ARES music universe, my one friend swear by it!

*just a tip* if you do get limewire in, and you try to add a song to your itune account and a box pops up asking if you want to make a new file for it DO NOT CLICK YES! i did that and it deleted everythign but the song i was trying to get in, and i ahd to start all over!

Because you most likely have your firewall settings turned on. Go to control panel and shut off the firewall. It will tell you not to but when you restart your computer it will come back on.

I would say probably NOD32. It has the best heuristics, detecting the most unknown viruses, has good updates, light on resources and VERY fast at scanning.

Kaspersky comes in 2nd, and Avira AntiVir PE Premium 3rd.

I personally use NOD32 and Avira AntiVir PE Classic. NOD32 is enabled 24/7, and Avira is only used for on-demand scans so they don't conflict.

Probably because it takes up space and memory and its FREE. I dont trust free things. I would just get rid of it and install mcafee or norton.

Try some things to make your computer more efficient. You can find them under MY COMPUTER, right click on your C local drive and then click on properties.

1) Do a disc compression it will compress all your files

2) Do a disk cleanup. It will get rid of all your temp files that your computer does not need.

3) Do a disk defragment. It will move all your fragmented files.

4) Go to Start menu then click on RUN, and then type msconfig and then hit ENTER. Under the start up tab, uncheck programs that you dont want running in the background that usually loads when you start Windows.

And you might want to upgrade and add more RAM into your computer. Memory definitely helps.
